Lim: Why BN reps did not question loan enactment before it was passed?

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) said he is puzzled as to why Barisan Nasional (BN) lawmakers only voiced their dissatisfaction on the Penang Loan (Bank and Other Financial Source) Enactment 2017 after it was passed in the State Legislative Assembly yesterday.
Lim pointed out that BN assemblymen did not raise objections before the enactment was passed by Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang.
"Why they dare not raise it in the state assembly?" he asked.
Lim also clarified that the state government was not obtaining loans from China's commercial banks but from the country itself.
He said Penang's financial stability track record speaks for itself as it has the lowest amount of unsettled loans with only RM64.49 million as of March 31 this year.
"This is something for Penangites to cheer about," he told reporters in a press conference today.
The new law will enable the state to take loans from the Export Import Bank Of China (EXIM) for use in the RM27 billion Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) project.
Earlier, Lim inspected progress on upgrading works of the "Octopus Bridge" at Jalan Penang.
