KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysian Police are liaising with the Philippine authorities to verify a news report that two Malaysians were among 13 suspected militants killed in battles with the military in Marawi City, Mindanao recently, says Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
"Please wait. The police are still obtaining verification over the report," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

Meanwhile, Bukit Aman (federal police) Special Branch director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said at least five Malaysians were now believed to be in Marawi City.

"We cannot confirm (the identities of) those who were killed as there are a number of people (Malaysians) over there. Do wait for confirmation first, it might take some time," he said.

A local English daily today had quoted intelligence sources as saying the Malaysians killed in the battles were identified as Ustaz Abdurahman Asmawi, from Kelantan and Dr Kamsa Yahya from Kedah. — Bernama
