GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng (pix) told the Penang High Court today that investigators from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) did not summon him to facilitate investigations on his purchase of a Mercedes.
He said a news report to that effect by now defunct news portal FZ Sdn Bhd was not true.
Lim also said there was no basis to the article which linked him with business tycoon Tan Sri Tan Kok Ping with regards to the purchase of the Mercedes.
He said there was no communication between him and Tan and added the article painted both of them in a negative light.
"We are always open to public scrutiny," he said under cross-examination by his counsel Datuk N. Mureli.
He also said there was no attempt by the portal to get his comment for the article.
Lim is suing FZ Sdn Bhd, and its managing editor Terence Fernandez, over an article published on Jan 3, 2014, titled "MACC begins probe on Merc purchase".
He claimed the article had tarnished his name and reputation in his professional and political capacity.
Lim also claimed the article painted him as corrupt, dishonest, untrustworthy and not fit to be a leader.
He is requesting for relief including general damages, punitive damages and exemplary damages among others.
Lim is represented by Mureli while Raja Eileen and Amanda Loh acted for FZ and Fernandez.
The trial continues from Aug 21 to 24.
