(Video) Slow-speed pursuit of unfit suspect tickles viewers

26 May 2017 / 09:03 H.

EVEN a slow loris on crutches could have outpaced this unfit criminal, who botched an attempt to rob a branch of Elizabeth Jewelers in the Japanese city of Sapporo on Tuesday.
Probably down on his luck, the suspect couldn't even catch a break as a police officer arrived at the scene before he could loot the store.
The would-be robber took off, not quite as fast as Usain Bolt off the blocks, and had the surprisingly almost as slow officer snapping at his heels.
The suspect was brought down after a six-minute foot pursuit, that took the comical chase down the sidewalks and across an intersection. Equally puzzling was the presence of a cameraman who captured the slow-speed pursuit.
It was reported that Sapporo police later issued a statement confirming that no injuries were sustained in the incident, and saying that the suspect was "quickly" apprehended.
Viewers of the video couldn't help but ask if it was a comic sketch disguised as a news item.
