SEMPORNA: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) through the Joint Forces Headquarters 2 (MK ATB 2) detained 10 men in two pump boats heading to Sitangkai, Philippines early this morning.
ATB 2 commander Brig Gen Zarondin Md Amin said in the incident at 1.15am, the men aged between 15 and 52 failed to produce any personal identification documents.
"The arrest also foiled their attempt to smuggle 60 drums of petrol valued at RM5,160 and foodstuff from Semporna," he said in a statement here today.
According to him, the success was due to the aggressive efforts of the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) using its interceptor boat, VIPER 1 headed by Sergeant Wahab Johari.
Zarondin said the boats and suspects had been handed over to the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) for further actions.
According to him, MK ATB 2 would continue to cooperate with ESSCom and other enforcement agencies to monitor and cripple all smuggling activities in Malaysian waters especially in Sabah to ensure social and economic stability for local residents. — Bernama
