ICA seizes 5,000 cartons of contraband cigarettes from Malaysia-registered truck

SINGAPORE: The Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) today seized 5,000 cartons of smuggled cigarettes from a Malaysia-registered truck at the Tuas Checkpoint.
In a statement here, the ICA said its officers had noticed anomalies in the scanned images of the truck which was conveying a consignment declared as air-conditioning units.
During the course of checks, ICA officers found the contraband cigarettes concealed within the consignment.
ICA said the driver - a 38-year-old Malaysian man, cigarettes and truck were handed over to the Singapore Customs for investigations.
The vehicle used in the commission of such offences is liable to be forfeited, it said. — Bernama
