KUALA LUMPUR-BASED Australian Cassidy Anderson is recording her first Malay single entitled, “Seperti Dia”. The 29-year-old singer will spend a full day to polish up her diction and another three days to understand the context of the song before going to the recording studio.
Anderson made waves in the Malaysian music scene when her cover version of Ombak Rindu recorded over a million views on her YouTube account, Cassidy La Crème.
She also covered other popular Malay tunes, including Amy Search’s Tiada Lagi, Sudah Ku Tahu by Projector Band and Teman Pengganti by Black and Malique.
The Australian is signed to Raksasa Records and Warner Music Malaysia, and will finally release her first ever Malay single, which was composed by Hael Husaini, Mike Chan and Ezra Kong.
The ballad is about cultural differences between a pair of lovers. “It is like someone is still in love with their ex, but you can't compare because you're not from that culture, so it hit home for me, I can definitely sympathise with the lyrics because I've been through that heartbreak before,”she said.
“For five years now, I've always wanted to move here and try my luck in the Malaysian industry. I know it sounds very strange to say but, for me, Malaysia feels like home.”
Cassidy learned about the Malay culture from her Singaporean Malay friends in 2012. Back then, she was working at Universal Studios Singapore as Marilyn Monroe.
She hopes her first Malay single “would be the first of many.”
She added: “I'm very excited and honoured to be here. I would like to create a long term career and move my life to Malaysia. I don't want to just do one or two songs because I can really see myself living here.”
