KUALA LUMPUR: The man who drove off in a police patrol car in USJ Taipan, Subang Jaya near here on May 19 was caught in Jalan Pekeliling, Kota Baru, Kelantan early this morning.
Subang Jaya police chief ACP Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the suspect was detained by a Bukit Aman Commercial CID personnel at 3.30am.
"He was detained over five cases of loan fraud in Kelantan," he said in a statement here today.
On May 19, the suspect drove off with a grey Proton Preve at about 9pm before abandoning the vehicle near Persiaran Kewajipan in USJ 5, Subang Jaya.
Selangor police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat in a media conference said in the incident, the suspect was being brought from Kelantan to Subang Jaya when he complained of having gastritises and vomiting.
He said the detective then stopped the car at a convenient store and pharmacy to buy food and medicine for the suspect.
"While one of the policemen went to the shop and another was taking tissue paper from the car, the suspect who was handcuffed jumped into the driver's seat and drove off with the police car," he said. — Bernama
