PETALING JAYA: After years of torment allegedly in the hands of his own parents, a nine-year-old boy's hell at home ended tragically when he succumbed to the multiple injuries he sustained as a result of being punched and caned in USJ, Subang Jaya here on Friday.
When he fell unconscious at about 3pm on Friday, his parents took him to a clinic at the Regalia Business Centre in Jalan USJ 1/1A where a doctor who was shocked by the wounds he saw on the boy's body pronounced the child dead after he showed no signs of life.
A clinic staff alerted Subang Jaya police who arrived at the scene within minutes before detaining the victim's parents.
Subang Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Azlin Sadari said there were injuries on the victim's face, legs, hands and buttocks.
He said the boy was allegedly punched and caned.
Mohd Azlin said a post mortem report by the Serdang Hospital revealed he had died of subcutaneous and muscle haemorrhage.
He said the boy's parents, a 33-year-old man and his 36-year-old wife had past criminal records.
Mohd Azlin said the man had a previous case for drug possession while the woman for burglary and cheating.
He said the woman is also wanted by Kuantan police for a theft case.
Mohd Azlin said the couple are under a seven-day remand order for investigations.
Sources said investigators believe the child had suffered the abuse for years based on the old wounds found on him.
It is learnt that the couple who have another child, a six-month old daughter, had only a week earlier moved to Subang Jaya from their previous home on Jalan Klang Lama.
It is believed that the Welfare Department has taken custody of the baby following the arrest of the couple.
Meanwhile, in KOTA TINGGI, an unemployed woman and her lover were charged in the Sessions Court here today with the murder of her 20-month-old son.
Sofia Nabila Naim, 22, and mechanic Mohd Hanafi Misban, 28, nodded after the charge was read out to them before Judge Salawati Djambari via an interpreter but no plea was recorded, Bernama reported.
They were jointly charged with murdering Muhammad Zahril Sufyan Abdul Zahir at a house in Block 4, Felda Bukit Easter here between 7.10am and 2.30pm on May 15.
The charge, under Section 302 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code, carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Sofia is now three months pregnant.
