KUALA LUMPUR: Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) technical director Morten Frost Hansen has dismissed rumours that national top men's doubles pair, Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong would be split up following Malaysia's disastrous outing at the recent Sudirman Cup mixed team badminton championship in Gold Coast, Australia.
The Dane said the decision on the matter would be the agenda to be discussed at the Coaching and Training (C&T) meeting to be chaired by the BAM president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria this week.
"I can't made further comment on the matter but I will submit my reports on our shuttlers' performance during the C&T meeting and let's see how it goes," he told Bernama via Whatsapp application, today.
Malaysia were eliminated from the Sudirman Cup after losing 1-3 to Japan in the quarter-final with Goh/Tan suffering back-to-back defeats to the unheralded pair, Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda.
They met the Japanese pair twice, in the group stage and in the quarter-final of the biennial tournament.
Goh/Tan, the 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist, put up a topsy-turvy performance this season after only reaching the quarter-final stage in three Super Series tournaments namely – the All England, the India Open and the Singapore Open. — Bernama
