SHAH ALAM: Quick action by a police patrol unit foiled an attempted restaurant break-in on Sunday.
The drama unfolded when a 30-year-old man, who is also an employee of the restaurant in Taman Sri Muda here was hanging around with his friends in the vicinity when he spotted a suspect in the midst of breaking into the restaurant at 4.30am.
Shah Alam district police chief ACP Shafien Mamat said the man then chased the suspect on foot and bumped into a police patrol car.
"Our men (police) saw the man shouting for help while giving chase. The suspect was running towards a van driven by a man and with another man in the passenger seat.
"The patrol unit then alerted five patrol cars and two Motorcycle Patrol Units (URB)," he told reporters when met at the district police headquarters here today.
He said a high-speed chase ensued and after almost 4km, the suspects were nabbed at the side of the road at Section 15 here.
"Preliminary investigations found that the van was a stolen vehicle and the three suspects in their 20's were on police's wanted list for the last two months for burglary and break-ins," he said.
House break-in equipment were seized from the suspects.
Police believe the suspects have been active for two months and are linked to house break-in cases in Taman Sri Muda.
The trio arrested on Sunday are believed to be part of the "Muniandy Gang".
The suspects have been remanded for five days under Section 457 of the Penal Code for break-in and Section 379A of the same code for vehicle theft.
