Ramadan an occasion to better portray Islamic values: OIC sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR: Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Secretary-General, Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen, conveyed his greetings to the Islamic Ummah in conjunction with the month of Ramadan, saying that the holy month was an occasion to better demonstrate noble Islamic values.
He said that these values included altruism, generosity, moderation, tolerance, mutual co-existence among all humans, rejecting violence and extremism and combating terrorism.
In an OIC statement, the secretary-general also stressed on Muslims' solidarity amid the grip of humanitarian crises.
In this regard he urged the OIC 57 member states and humanitarian organisations in the Islamic World to be prompt in responding to the urgent humanitarian needs of the poor families and the underprivileged across the Islamic world.
Al-Othaimeen reminded everyone to offer assistance to the refugees and the displaced people who have fled from wars and conflicts in their land.
He prayed that Allah showered blessings and guidance on the leaders of the OIC as well as the people of the Muslim world.
He hoped that the leaders of the Islamic world would succeed during the holy month of Ramadan in boosting Islamic solidarity and establishing peace.
According to an Aljazeera report, 34 countries, including Malaysia, started fasting on Saturday from dawn until sunset, while Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and Shia Muslims in Iraq declared Sunday to be their first day of Ramadan. — Bernama
