KENINGAU: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) foiled an attempt to smuggle out subsidised goods worth RM15,500 to a neighbouring country yesterday.
Keningau KPNDKK chief K. Gunasegaran said the goods seized include dozens of packets of cooking oil, and tanks of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), which were believed to be smuggled using the river.
"The subsidised goods were found piled up on the banks of Sungai Pensiangan in a remote location in the sub-district of Pagalungan, about 105km from here," he told Bernama, here today.
However, the smugglers managed to escape upon realising the presence of enforcement officers.
The case was being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. — Bernama
