Self styled healer 'Dr Ganja' nabbed by cops

KUALA LUMPUR: If his name did not give him away his action of growing ganja plants in his house compound and marketing various ganja-based products on social media definitely did.
The 58-year-old army veteran, who goes by the moniker "Dr Ganja", had been growing ganja in his house which he prescribed as medicine for those unable to seek treatment.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) deputy director DCP Datuk Kang Chez Chiang said police picked up the man at Kampung Delek Dalam in Klang, as well as his 35-year-old Indonesian wife and a 38-year-old worker at the house on Friday.
He said the man even claimed that his products could cure all sorts of illnesses.
"The man had promoted the benefits of using ganja and hemp on social media and had garnered a following. On Friday, at about 12.30pm, a raiding party made up of elite members of the federal police Special Tactics and Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) picked up the trio at their home.
"The buyers who trusted him will go to his house to buy his ganja-based products, namely condensed milk, margarine, honey and oil all mixed with ganja.
"During the raid, police seized 70 chocolate bars, 66 bottles of honey, 21 bottles of margarine, nine bottles of milk and two pieces of cake. They were all mixed with ganja, and valued at RM16,000," Kang told reporters at the Federal police headquarters here yesterday.
Police also seized 18 ganja plants, 4kg of powders believed to be ganja, and 72kg of ganja seeds.
It is learned that the suspect has been active in producing and selling the ganja products for the past five months.
"This marks the first arrest of the year of syndicates selling drugs via social media," added Kang.
The suspects have been remanded until June 2 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction and Section 6B of the same act for restriction on planting or cultivation of certain plants.
Kang said a total of 76,738 individuals were arrested between January and May 25 for distributing, being in possession or testing positive for drugs.
A total of 3,227 foreigners were arrested for drugs related offences and drugs worth RM99.36 million were seized in the same period.
About 443.37kg of syabu, 90kg ketamine, 565.08kg Ganja, 226.77kg Heroine, 107,198 ecstasy pills, 761,019 Yaba pills and 2,630,620 Eramin 5 pills) were seized from the beginning of the year.
