Alor Gajah CID chief released on MACC bail

PUTRAJAYA: A police officer who was remanded for seven days to facilitate the investigation into a corruption case involving collecting of protection money from illegal gambling joint operators and massage parlours in Malacca, was released today.
Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasmin Wan Ab Rahman allowed the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) who is also Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief at the Alor Gajah district police headquarters to be released on Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) bail of RM50,000.
Since May 16, a total of 13 individuals, including nine policemen and officers were arrested by the MACC to assist in the investigation into the case.
With the release of the 51-year-old ASP today, all nine police officers detained by the MACC, have been released on bail.
Seven of the policemen and officers including two district police chiefs were released last week while a another police officer with the rank of DSP was released on Monday.
Of the four civilians arrested in connection with the case, a van driver was released yesterday.
Meanwhile, the remand order on the three other civilians was extended for two days from tomorrow after being detained since Sunday.
They are being investigated under the MACC Act 2009 and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing Act and Proceeds of Illegal Activities Act 2001. — Bernama
