KUALA TERENGGANU: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) Terengganu seized 100 sets of fake Siti Khadijah brand "telekung" (an outfit worn by Muslim women during prayers) worth RM12,000 in a raid yesterday.
Its director, Azlan Abdul Samat said it was the first such seizure in Malaysia thus far.
"Acting on complaints lodged by the trademark owner Siti Khadijah Apparel Sdn Bhd, a team of KPDNKK Terengganu enforcement officers raided the residential premises in Bukit Besar here and interrogated a woman supplier who is in her 20s.
"Based on our investigation, we believe sales of the fake Siti Khadijah 'telekung' have been rampant in the night markets since a month ago at a cheaper price of RM120 per pair compared to prices of the originals in the boutiques that are between RM150 to RM250 per set," he told reporters here today.
All the "telekung" were imported from Vietnam and sent to the supplier via post.
Azlan said the case was being investigated under Section 8 (2) (C) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 for prohibition of false trade description in relation to trademark. — Bernama
