Small fire at Megamall, big stir on social media

A SMALL fire broke out on the third floor of Mid Valley Megamall in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday. But it was enough to cause a stir on the social media. The fire caught the attention of netizens after the news went viral.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations centre head, Zamani Ismail said the department received a call from a member of the public at 8.24pm before nine firemen from the Pantai fire station reached the location, about 14 minutes later.
“When we arrived, the small fire had been put out a few minutes earlier,” he said.
The management of the mall has issued a statement on the incident.
It read: “At 8.20pm, 30 May 2017, smoke was detected at the North of Lower Ground Floor of Mid Valley Megamall. Bomba squad was immediately alerted and they arrived at 8.40pm. The trail led them to a small fire in the plumbing stack room on the Second Floor of Mid Valley Megamall. The fire was put off at 8.52pm.
“The situation is currently under control and the Bomba forensics team is carrying out an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire. We apologise for the distress it has caused to our customers and the safety of our customers and visitors remain our utmost priority.”
