KUALA LUMPUR: Two senior editors of The Star have been suspended pending investigations and inquiry into the newspaper's front page on May 27 which caused a controversy.
Its editor-in-chief Datuk Leanne Goh Lee Yen and executive editor Dorairaj Nadason will cease to function in their respective roles until further notice. An investigation into the matter will be conducted soon.
Star Media Group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai will oversee editorial operations during this period.
Meanwhile, police have opened two investigation papers against The Star newspaper under the Sedition Act and Section 298A of the Penal Code for their front page story last Saturday which has offended Muslims in the country.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the investigation papers were opened because police had received multiple reports on the newspaper's front page. He said those responsible will be called in for questioning.
"Statements will be taken to ascertain who published the picture and the headline on the front page of last Saturday's edition," he told theSun.
The newspaper displayed a photograph of Muslims performing terawih prayers on the eve of Ramadan while the headline read ''Malaysian Terrorist Leader'' on its front page.
