KUALA LUMPUR: A man whose Indonesian maid had fled after stealing gold jewellery from him tracked down the foreigner to an apartment here before apprehending her on Tuesday.
The employer had lost a gold chain and a ring worth RM1,300 when the domestic helper he had hired for his home in Selayang escaped on April 19.
The man lodged a police report with Gombak police soon after and recently got wind of the woman's whereabouts.
On learning that she was working for a new employer at the Regalia Residence, a luxury apartments on Jalan Sultan Ismail, the man together with several other family members staked out at opposite the place yesterday.
At about 10.20pm, when the foreigner stepped out of the apartment compound, the man grabbed her and bundled her into his car with the help of his accomplices.
Kuala Lumpur police CID chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said the 23-year-old Indonesian maid was then handed over to Gombak police by her ex-employer.
"She was arrested and is in custody Gombak police for investigations on the theft case she allegedly committed." he said.
A video footage of the woman being snatched by her ex-employer that said to be captured by closed-circuit security cameras (CCTV) of the apartment also went viral in social media yesterday, claiming the case was the kidnapping of a young woman by unknown individuals.
KL police initially commenced an abduction probe on the case but later learnt that the woman is under the custody of their Gombak counterpart.
It is learnt that KL police are also investigating the ex-employer for taking the law into his own hands.
