FOR a taste of traditional Malay cooking from the kampung, head down to Pullman KLCC’s Eccucino restaurant for the breaking of fast this Ramadan.
During the preview of its festive buffet spread which follows a balik kampung theme, Pullman KLCC’s Malay cuisine chef Hamedy Yaacob cooked up the Kelantanese dish of gulai udang batang keladi on the spot.
Made using ingredients such as pucuk keladi, fresh prawns, coconut cream, galangal (pounded into a paste), fresh turmeric paste and dried chilli paste, it was something simple and hearty to be enjoyed with rice.
Hamedy is from Kuala Lumpur, and has been working at Pullman KLCC for the past two years.
“The food we are serving at the buffet is inspired by kampung-style food. It is authentic Malay dishes from all the states,” he said, adding that there will be four menus on rotation.
Diners can also opt to check out the different action stations serving a variety of dishes, including curry noodles, satay, roast meats and other local favourites.
Among the traditional dishes to look out for are nasi briyani with cashew nuts, kambing panggang berjintan, udang goreng berempah, and ayam panggang madu berbijan.
There are also fresh seafood and salads to start off your meal, and a wide array of delicious traditional Malaysian kuih and western-style desserts to end it.
To wash it all down, check out the stand with young coconut and freshly-pressed sugarcane juice.
The Balik Kampung buffet dinner is served between 6.30pm and 10pm throughout Ramadan.
The Pullman KLCC also offers specially-tailored buffet menus for private get-togethers of 50 persons and above for the breaking of fast.
The hotel also serves sahur or early breakfast from 4.30am to 5.30am.
