PETALING JAYA: Disrupted Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH128 is expected to depart Melbourne today at 6pm (Malaysian time) and arrive here at 12.25am.
"The flight has been rescheduled to operate as MH128D on June 1 departing Melbourne at 2000hrs local time and arriving in Kuala Lumpur at 0235hrs local time the next day," MAS said in a press statement.
The flight will be operated by a different set of technical and cabin crew.
Passengers, who were stranded due to the chaos, were sent to Melbourne and will be departing for Kuala Lumpur throughout June 1.
"Passengers with critical onward connections have been allocated seats on Malaysia Airlines' earlier flight, MH148 departing Melbourne at 1355hrs local time on June 1. A total of three Malaysia Airlines flights are now scheduled to depart Melbourne today," it said further.
Earlier, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said several precautionary checks had to be conducted on the aircraft by the Melbourne airport authorities including ground and cargo checks to ensure that the aircraft was safe to return to the capital.
"Passengers have also gone through a screening process again which will take some time. However, I am confident that our aircraft will return to the country today since these clearances were done throughout the whole of last night," he said after officiating the One Belt One Road Sojourn Culture International Forum at Wisma MCA here today.
He added that arrangements have been made by Malaysia Airlines to take care of the stranded passengers which included lodging, food and their security.
Stating that a follow up investigation will be initiated upon the return of the aircraft, Liow said the passengers' safety remains a top priority.
The Kuala Lumpur-bound flight MH128 left Melbourne at 11.11pm (9.11pm local time), yesterday but turned back shortly afterwards when a man allegedly threatened those on board, Australian police said.
"It is alleged that a man tried to enter the cockpit and threatened the safety of passengers and staff," Victoria state police said in a statement, but added that he "did not gain entry to the cockpit" and was subdued.
