KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested four individuals and seized drugs worth RM2.28 million after raids were conducted at KLIA, Sepang, and in Sungai Besi yesterday.
The first seizure saw two local males and one Indian national arrested in an operation conducted by the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) using the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING).
"The three of them were picked up at a barber shop in Sungai Besi. One of the suspects then led us to a store at a nearby flat and we seized Syabu amounting to 20.4kg which is worth RM1.43 million," STING Deputy Commander II, SAC Arjunaidi Mohamed said at a press conference in Bukit Aman today.
He said police also seized packing equipment, which meant that the three suspects were involved in distributing the drugs to street pushers.
At around the same time as the first raid, STING officers also arrested a local man at KLIA who was carrying 3.3kg of cocaine worth an estimated RM850,000.
"We got a tip off from foreign authorities on this and we identified the man who was a drug mule. He had smuggled in the drugs by concealing 181 capsules in chocolate containers," said Arjunaidi.
According to police sources, the drug mule came to Malaysia from an African nation.
Arjunaidi said that the supply of cocaine seized was most likely not for local market as demand for the drug in Malaysia is low.
"The cocaine was most likely for markets in neighbouring countries," he said.
He added that this case was similar to a couple of weeks ago when a local man was arrested for smuggling 3.8kg of cocaine worth RM1million.
He was a drug mule and had come to Malaysia from an African nation. The drugs were also concealed in chocolate containers.
Arjunaidi also added that the Syabu seized could have been sold to approximately 121,000 users and the cocaine could have been distributed to some 16,500 users.
All the suspects are remanded for six days and the cases are being investigated under Section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same Act which provides for the mandatory death sentence.
