IPOH: The Perak Government will not compromise with errant breeders carrying out activities which polluted rivers near their farms, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (pix).
He said stern action and enforcement would be carried out according to the law, including the withdrawal of licence and the dismantling farm structures.
"Several such cases (involving pollution) had been reported to the state government and we have set up a team to monitor reports of pollution which changed the colour and ammonia content of the rivers.
"The pollution has also affected the livelihood of fishermen in the areas involved," he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting here today.
According to Zambry, the government had detected such activities involving chicken and pig farmers at several legal and illegal sites in Sungkai and Hulu Perak.
"So far, the government is still studying the areas concerned to obtain evidence for legal action," he said.
He also urged residents and those with information on breeders polluting rivers and ponds to report them to the Department of Environment or other authorities so that the relevant action could be taken. — Bernama
