CHEF Dominique Crenn, the top-ranked female chef in the US, is working on a comedy show that will be based on her life in the restaurant industry.
Crenn, who catapulted to fame after earning a second Michelin star for her San Francisco restaurant Atelier Crenn, and becoming the 2016 recipient of the world's best female chef award, revealed that she's in the early stages of realising a lifelong dream and developing a comedy show.
"I've always wanted to do this," Crenn said in a phone interview from San Francisco.
Though she remained tight-lipped about the project, saying it's only in the preliminary stages, Crenn plans to shop it to online streaming studios so that the show can reach audiences around the world.
Crenn said she will produce the series and make occasional guest appearances.
"I think through humour you can get a point across better than through just a dramatic narrative."
The comedy show is one of several projects she has on the go.
Along with running a Michelin-starred restaurant, Crenn also spearheads a tree-planting program in Haiti called Root Project.
She's working on organising a regular dinner party for women and children from local shelters at Petit Crenn, Atelier Crenn's sister restaurant that would repurpose edible food waste into gourmet meals for both homeless guests paying and diners.
She's also working on the opening of a wine bar that will feature biodynamic and natural wines from around the world, and is writing her memoir.
But given that the chef is best known for her "poetic culinaria", with each dish on her menu accompanied by lines of earnest and serious poetry, news she plans to helm a comedy show is unexpected and begs the question: Is Crenn funny enough?
"Oh, I'm hilarious," she deadpans. — AFP Relaxnews
