LABUAN: The government has disbursed RM687,500 in allocation to all mosques and surau in the duty-free-island for Ramadan-related activities and programmes.
Not only that, the government also spent RM150,000 for Ramadan aid to 1,000 asnaf (''asnaf'' refers to a group of people who are eligible to receive zakat [tithe]), orphans, elderly and single mothers in conjunction with the annual programme of Nur Ramadan here on Saturday.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the aid was to ease the financial burden of committee members carrying out activities and programmes at houses of worship during the Ramadan.
"The aid is also to help ease the financial burden of the needy during Ramadan," he said at the Nur Ramadan at the Kg Patau-Patau 2 here last night.
He said the Ramadan aid was a collaboration between his ministry, Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), Federal Territory Foundation and Yayasan Al Bukhary. — Bernama
