Affordable housing more important than 'football field'

KUALA LUMPUR: The importance of seeing the city dwellers owning a home surpassed the demand of a small group of people who wants to maintain a site as a football field in Jalan Jujur in Cheras.
Bandar Tun Razak Umno division chief Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar said the issue on "hijacked" land was a mere political game while there were more important things to focus on.
"The project to be implemented on that location involved mixed development, including the construction of affordable housing where residents of Bandar Tun Razak will have the opportunity to own it.
"The government has also developed a new and bigger football field, complete with facilities, located approximately 500m from Jalan Jujur," he told reporters after attending the free petrol refuelling and "Bubur Lambuk" distribution programme here yesterday.
Rizalman was commenting on the recent protest against the construction of 40-storey condominium to be developed on a land in Jalan Jujur.
The protest, among others, wanted the site that had been in existence for almost 40 years, to be retained as it was, being the focal point for sporting activities and community programmes for local residents, and the development of the condominium would cause various other problems including traffic congestion in the area.
Rizalman said the issue of traffic congestion had been taken into account by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), and there was a plan for an alternative route to tackle the issue and to ensure that residents in the surrounding area were not adversely affected.
Earlier, about 600 motorcyclists received free petrol while 500 packs of "Bubur Lambuk" were distributed. — Bernama
