ALOR STAR: A subsidiary of the Kedah state government, Bina Darulaman Berhad (BDB), has disbursed RM120,000 to 600 poor and needy recipients in the state this Ramadan.
Its managing director, Datuk Izham Yusoff, said the recipients were from the Bakar, Sungai Tiang, Kuala Nerang and Jitra state constituencies.
He said each person received RM200 in cash.
"We gave each of the recipients RM200, and it was given earlier this time so that the recipients can use it for their preparations ahead of Aidilfitri," he said when speaking at the breaking-of-fast and contribution ceremony for the Bakar Bata constituency at Masjid Al-Rahman, Alor Merah , here, yesterday.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah was also present.
According to Izham, the contribution from BDB proved that the state government cared about the local community, especially the poor and needy.
"Although BDB is currently facing a challenging business environment, the fate of those in need has not been forgotten, and the aid given is to alleviate the burden of the rising cost of living," he said.
Meanwhile, Izham said BDB would also be giving business tithes for 2016 totalling RM318,250, up from RM296,250 the previous year.
He said of the total, RM18,250 would be distributed to recipients in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, as BDB, the subsidiary of Kedah Holdings Sdn Bhd, had also been operating in the real estate market outside the state. — Bernama
