JOHOR BARU: Both of them sustained fractured legs, and had to rely on crutches and wheelchair to move around, due to road accidents, however, this did not deter two policewomen from being tenacious in carrying out their duties.
Their hard work paid off and received due recognition from the Johor police chief when they were listed among the 213 police officers who were promoted to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Sergeant today.
ASP Nik Samsuriah Daud, 39, from the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) said she was grateful to receive the promotion despite the fact that she was in a state of disability after being involved in an accident when she was on her way home from Bukit Aman last January.
"I am grateful to the Johor police chief and department heads at IPD for being very supportive and giving me encouragement to attend the ceremony today," she told reporters at the conferment of ranks by Johor Police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd at Johor IPK today.
Nik Samsuriah is now in a wheelchair, and still on medical leave as a result of the accident.
Meanwhile, for Siti Beram Jumin, 57, she was happy to receive the rank of sergeant after 34 years in the service.
Currently based in Muar district police headquarters, Siti Beram said the recognition was extra special after going through various experiences as a policewoman.
Siti Beram's movements relied entirely on crutches after being involved in a road accident while returning from duty in 2014, that left her suffering from fractured bones in five different places.
According to Wan Ahmad Najmuddin the conferment of ranks involved 23 senior police officers and a total of 190 inspectors who held the rank of Lance Corporal.
"I call on all Johor police personnel, to remain united in maintaining the force's high performance and dignity, and to give the utmost commitment in carrying out their duty to the public."
He said the promotion was not only confined to the rise in grade and salary alone, but it also covered a more important aspect, which was increased responsibility and trust, shouldered by those involved. — Bernama
