IPOH: The Perak state government is disappointed with the neglect by a private company of a disused Royal Malaysian Navy vessel docked off the shore near Marina Waterfront, Lumut, which on Saturday was found to be leaking and had tilted.
Perak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi described the neglect of the vessel named Ex KD Rahmat as a serious offence.
"Action against Plus Asia Jaya (Perak) Sdn Bhd which was entrusted to maintain the vessel will be decided once the full report is obtained from the special committee that is going to be formed soon," she told a media conference here today.
She said representatives from the navy and state government would be in the special committee.
The costs involved in rehabilitating the vessel would be borne fully by the company to ensure that the situation would not be repeated, she said.
Nevertheless, she said, the vessel was in a more stable state after removal works since Saturday of the water inside it.
Nolee Ashilin who is also Tualang Sekah assemblyman urged the public not to make any negative speculation on the incident which earlier became viral on Facebook.
After being decommissioned some years back, Ex KD Rahmat was handed to Plus Asia Jaya (Perak) Sdn Bhd by the Perak state government before being turned into a museum ship in 2011. However, it was closed down in August last year due to safety factors. — Bernama
