Azizul confirmed for two cycling events

KUALA LUMPUR: World keirin champion, Mohd Azizulhasni Awang has confirmed turning out for keirin and sprint events in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games scheduled on Aug 19 to 30.
Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) vice president Omar Saad said Azizul's participation in the two events was proposed by national cycling coach John Beasley.
"Beasley wants Azizul to compete in the two events," he told reporters after a meeting of team managers for the 29th SEA Games at Wisma OCM today.
Omar also confirmed Mohd Shah Firdaus Shahrom would be contesting in the keirin, 1km time trial and team sprint while Muhammad Fadil Mohd Zonis, Muhammad Shariz Efendi Mohd Shahrin and Muhammad Khairil Nizam Rasol would fill the three other slots in the team sprint event.
Meanwhile, national cycling queen Fatehah Mustapa will be in action in four events namely team sprint, sprint, keirin and 500 metres time trial in SEA Games.
"We will be counting on Fatehah to deliver the gold medals and we hope she would clinch gold medals in all four events," he said.
In this regard, the road cycling team will comprise Harif Salleh, Anuar Manan, Mohd Zamri Salleh, Muhd Adiq Hussaini Othman and Shahrul Mat Amin.
According to Omar, the target given by the Olympic Council of Malaysia to MNCF is 13 gold medals with two coming from road events.
Apart from that, several track events have also been identified as gold medal potentials for the country especially in sprint and keirin. — Bernama
