PETALING JAYA: The father of the girl who was hit mercilessly by a woman in the video that went viral recently has shifted the blame from his mother-in-law to the lack of effort shown by the person who was recording the incident.
The father, who declined to be named, said he was shocked to find out about the incident.
"She (victim) is my fourth child. I was alerted by my wife at about 9pm on Monday. At that time, I was baffled about the incident as I was still unclear about it. Then my wife sent me a few videos that had gone viral via Whatsapp.
"It was shocking and my mother-in-law is responsible for what she did. However, when I asked her who was recording the video, she said it was one of the women in her 50's staying around the neighbourhood," he said in a Facebook video addressing the public about the incident.
He then questioned the motive of the person who recorded the video and her lack of effort to save the girl.
"Why you didn't help her? If that's the case I would say both of you (including the mother-in-law) are involved in this case," he said.
He further revealed that his daughter is safe and in stable condition.
"I lodged a police report. I am not interested in punishing my mother-in-law but let the law take its course," he said, adding that he is waiting for a full medical report from Serdang Hospital to know when exactly the incident took place.
Meanwhile, Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azlin Sadari said the woman has been remanded for seven days under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 which provides for a maximum fine of RM20,000 or a jail term up to 10 years, or both, upon conviction.
The incident happened in Taman Puchong Perdana in Puchong.
In the video of the incident, a girl can be seen eating before a woman is heard asking the child to leave the dining table.
This happened when the child spilled some of her food on the floor.
As the girl stands up, the woman immediately starts beating her mercilessly.
This incident in the Subang Jaya district follows the one on May 28 where a nine-year-old boy's hell at home ended tragically when he succumbed to multiple injuries sustained as a result of being punched and caned by his parents in USJ here.
Police said the boy's parents, a 33-year-old man and his 36-year-old wife, had past criminal records.
