ALOR STAR: Police detained a man and two women believed to be drug mules at the Kuah Jetty ferry terminal yesterday as they attempted to smuggle 2.68kg of heroin to Langkawi.
The suspects, aged 19 and 22, were arrested with the drug worth RM400,000 inside an eco-friendly bag at 3.30pm upon their arrival by ferry from Kuala Perlis, said Kedah Police chief Datuk Asri Yusoff.
He said a check revealed that one of the women suspects had in her possession six packages of the drug wrapped in paper.
"We believe they came to Langkawi to deliver the drug that they had obtained in Penang," he told reporters here today.
"Further investigation revealed that this was the third time they were delivering the drug and that they received a payment of between RM1,000 and RM3,000 each," Asri said, adding that the suspects were from Pendang in Kedah and Arau in Perlis.
"We found that they used the ferry for faster movement and to escape detection by enforcement personnel," he said, adding that the three suspects were remanded from today to June 12. — Bernama
