KUALA TERENGGANU: The State Veterinary Department (JPV) in Terengganu is currently vaccinating cows and buffaloes to prevent them from succumbing to Haemorrhagic Septicaemia.
Terengganu JPV Health Division chief, Dr Wan A'aidah Wan Hashim said three or four JPV teams are vaccinating 300-400 cows and buffaloes within a five-kilometre radius from the scene of the outbreak daily.
"We have vaccinated 955 cows, 792 in the district of Marang and 163 here since Wednesday. The vaccination will help to boost the animals' anti-bodies to better protect them from the disease. We will continue to monitor the situation from time to time," he told reporters here today.
Since the disease was detected on May 26, 261 livestock deaths (201 cows and 60 buffaloes) had been reported by 12 farmers from the districts of Marang, here and Kuala Nerus.
Early signs of the disease are edema, high temperature and neck pain, no appetite, gloomy, fast breathing, eye ailment and abundant dripping of saliva.
The public is advised not to panic as meat sold in the markets is free from the disease. — Bernama
