Rapid Rail grounds monorail four-car train sets for safety reasons

KUALA LUMPUR: Monorail operator Rapid Rail said today it had grounded its four-car train sets due to safety reasons.
Rapid Rail CEO Datuk Zohari Sulaiman said the trains were suspended after Rapid Rail identified several areas of risks posed by the trains which could harm the safety of its users.
“The trains had been handed over to the supplier, Scomi, for re-examination and rectification and we have briefed the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) on the matter,” he said in a statement.
Following the suspension of the trains, only two-car train sets were operating with a frequency of eight minutes, he said.
He also said that the monorail service would be supported by a special shuttle service provided by Rapid KL buses, plying between key monorail stations during the morning and evening peak hours on weekdays.
“If necessary, especially with the upcoming Hari Raya celebration, we are ready to consider extending the shuttle service on weekends as well,” he said.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and we seek patience and understanding from commuters till the matter is resolved,” he said.
He said that under such circumstances, he recommended that commuters consider taking other modes of transportation such as the Light Rail Transit (LRT), taxis or public ride-hailing services to get to the KL Golden Triangle.
Refunds would be given if a passenger decided not to board the train and exited the station in cases of train delays of more than 15 minutes, he said. — Bernama
