TH Ehsan programme benefits more than 1,900 asnaf

GEORGE TOWN: A total of 1,941 tithe (zakat) recipients comprising the poor and needy (asnaf) nationwide will benefit from Tabung Haji's (TH) Ehsan programme this year, which involves an allocation of RM970,500.
TH Chief Operating Officer Datuk Adi Azuan Abdul Ghani said the programme, which was among its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives for the month of Ramadan, was aimed to assist single fathers and mothers, senior citizens, the disabled as well as the hardcore poor.
"This programme is a good platform for TH to get close to the recipients as well as forge close ties with the local communities," he said at the Penang state-level presentation ceremony for 190 recipients of TH's Ehsan programme here today.
Adi Azuan said, RM95,000 was set aside for the giving of zakat in Penang, with each participant receiving RM500. — Bernama
