SUNGAI PETANI: A 46-year-old man believed to have set his wife on fire in Taman Arked here on May 26, has been remanded for seven days from today until June 14.
Kuala Muda deputy police chief, Supt Saifi Abd Hamid said the suspect who was earlier investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code, was being remanded under Section 302 of the same code after the victim died on June 6.
In the incident, the 44-year-old victim who lived in her sister's house in Taman Arked was found on fire after her husband hurled a burning bottle of petrol in her direction.
The incident is believed to be due to the suspect being angry when his wife refused to reconcile with him even though the couple was in the process of divorcing and had not been living together in the past 10 years.
As a result of the incident, the victim sustained serious burns on her body before she died on June 6 at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital. — Bernama
