PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has approved a list of 30 companies to provide ground handling services in Malaysia.
Ground handling services include, but is not limited to, check-in counter services, baggage handling, catering, ramp handling and refuelling.
Mavcom, in a statement yesterday, said that all companies are also required to have technical approval from the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia to provide ground handling services.
Moving forward, any person or entity operating as a ground handler without the necessary licence from Mavcom will be committing an offence and shall, upon conviction, be liable to a fine not exceeding RM1 million or imprisonment for a term, not exceeding three years, or both.
In the case of a continuing offence the offender, in addition to the penalty provided, shall be liable to a fine not exceeding RM50,000 for every day during which the offence continues after conviction.
The fine is also subjected to persons or entities who engage with unapproved ground handling operators.
