Assemblyman claims there are 1,400 phantom voters in Sekinchan

SEKINCHAN assemblyman Ng Suee Lim has claimed that there are 1,400 phantom voters in his constituency based on the Election Commission's (EC) proposed supplementary electoral roll for the first quarter of 2017.
Speaking to the press at his service centre in Sekinchan on Wednesday, he said the latest supplementary electoral roll showed that a total of 1,931 people have either registered as new voters or applied to change their addresses in the constituency but the identities of 1,400 of them are dubious.
"We have filed objections with the EC over the 1,400 suspicious voters comprising 816 Malays, 161 Chinese, 415 Indians and eight orang asli," he was quoted by Sin Chew Daily in its report today.
Elaborating on his objections, Ng said the supplementary roll showed that the Malay kampung of Jalan Parit 8 Baroh, Sungai Leman has 419 Indian voters, "but it is a Malay kampung and there are no Indians residents there".
"It is a traditional Malay kampung and its village head has also confirmed that there are no Indians living there, so where do these 419 Indian voters come from?" he asked.
Apart from that, there are also no orang asli in Sekinchan, he said in expressing his doubts about the eight orang asli voters as listed in the supplementary electoral roll.
He lamented that it is a costly affair to monitor phantom voters in the long term as RM10 is levied by the EC on each objection raised.
He urged newly registered voters who are being objected to attend the objection hearings as advised by the EC to protect their rights to vote.
