SERDANG: Police have arrested eight men for their involvement in two extortion incidents using a pistol.
Serdang district police chief ACP Megat Mohammad Aminudin Megat Alias said in the 3.30am incident on Wednesday, the group of men threatened a road-paving worker who was on duty in Sri Kembangan.
"The suspects told him if he failed to pay a certain amount of money, he will be shot dead.
"The same group of men then went to a snooker centre nearby and threatened an employee of the premises by placing a gun and some live bullets on the snooker table," he said in a statement today.
Megat Mohammad Aminudin said the men were allegedly unhappy with the premises operator and thus threatened one of their employees.
Following a police report, the CID team from Serdang picked up the suspects in Serdang.
"The suspects are aged between 20's and 30's and checks found that they all have previous criminal records.
"They were nabbed while they were driving their cars. Checks in the cars also found the pistol and five live bullets used during the extortion and threatening incidents," he said.
The suspects have been remanded until June 14 and the case is being investigated under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
