TNB lifts Bursa Malaysia to end higher

KUALA LUMPUR: Gains in selected blue chips, led by TNB, as well as rotational buying of index-linked counters, second and lower liners, helped Bursa Malaysia end higher today.
The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) continued scaling higher at close, ending at 1,788.89, up 3.32 points from yesterday's close of 1,785.57.
The key index which opened 2.71 points lower at 1,782.86 moved within a tight 9.41-point range of between 1,790.64 and 1,781.23 throughout the day.
On the broader market, gainers outpaced losers 476 to 396, with 382 counters unchanged, 526 counters untraded and 23 others suspended.
Volume declined to 1.91 billion units valued at RM2.22 billion from the 1.97 billion units valued at RM2.17 billion transacted on Thursday.
Single-handedly contributing 2.116 points to the rise in the composite index, TNB which saw buying by institutional funds, chalked up 22 sen to RM14.40 with 11.40 million shares traded.
Bursa Malaysia and its subsidiaries will be closed on June 12 in conjunction with the Nuzul Al-Quran holiday.
Among other heavyweights, top-weighted Maybank was flat at RM9.57, Public Bank bagged six sen to RM20.38, AMMB edged up 13 sen to RM5.00, Petronas Gas added 12 sen to RM19.20, while CIMB slid four sen to RM6.63.
Actively traded stocks included Frontken and Hubline which added half-a-sen each to 32 sen and 6.5 sen, as Asia Bioenergy eased one sen to 18 sen, Vivocom declining half-a-sen to 12 sen, while Careplus perked 2.5 sen to 43.5 sen.
The FBM Emas Index improved 27.43 points to 12,764.69, the FBMT100 Index bagged 27.48 points to 12,403.14, while the FBM Emas Shariah Index gained 37.36 points to 13,015.14.
The FBM 70 advanced 50.41 points to 15,255.82 and the FBM Ace jumped 50.75 points to 6,382.23.
On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index bagged 13.38 points to 16,790.02, the Industrial Index shaved off 3.37 points to 3,303.76, while the Plantation Index trimmed 5.19 points to 7,936.44.
The physical price of gold as at 5pm stood at RM169.13 per gramme, down RM1.62 from RM170.75 at 5pm yesterday. — Bernama
