18-year-old youth in coma after allegedly being assaulted, burnt and sodomised

GEORGE TOWN: An 18-year-old youth is currently in a coma after he was allegedly assaulted, burnt and sodomised by a group of individuals in Taman Tun Sardon here last Friday.
The teenager has since been pronounced "brain dead" and is fighting for his life at the Penang Hospital.
The family is since crying for justice and wants stern action to be taken against T. Nhaveen's assailants.
The victim's uncle, R. Thiyagarajan, 50, claimed the victim was frequently bullied by a group of friends when he was in secondary school but was devastated that it still continued even after he finished Form Five.
He said the family had at first thought it was a norm for any bullying incident during school days but was puzzled why the assailants were still going after his nephew.
He said this was clearly beyond bullying case as he claimed the victim was now unconsciousness and was pronounced "brain dead".
To make matters worse, he claimed his nephew suffered serious external injuries after being allegedly sodomised using an object while parts of skin on his back was burnt off.
Thiyagarajan was also unhappy with hospital authorities for not conducting a comprehensive check on the victim.
"We want justice to be served, " he said when met outside the Penang Hospital emergency unit here today.
The victim's mother D. Shanti, 43, was seen crying uncontrollably while being consoled by relatives.
She was also too distraught to speak when met.
Lawyer Baljit Singh, who assisted the family, said he will not let those involved escape the law.
Northeast district police chief ACP Anuar Omar, in a statement, said five youths aged between 17 and 18 were detained soon after the incident.
He added the case has since been classified as rioting under the Penal Code.
