KUALA NERANG: The Kedah Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has placed 600 of its staff to be on standby during the Aidilfitri celebration for possible power supply disruption.
Its general manager, Ismail Lathifi, said they would work according to shift round-the-clock to ensure the people in the state were able to celebrate Hari Raya without any problem.
"TNB has also made the necessary preparations and conducted checks at all its power and transmission stations, as well as setting up a team that will be working on shift round the clock to handle the situation should there be power supply disruption,'' he told Bernama at a breaking fast with the Kuala Nerang Assemblyman at Masjid Jamek Al-Islah, Kampung Perik, here, last night.
Kuala Nerang assemblyman Datuk Badrol Hisham Hashim , who is the State Housing and Local Government, Water Supply and Resources and Energy Committee chairman, also presented essential food items and ''duit raya'' to 110 asnaf (those eligible to receive tithe) from the Padang Terap district.
Ismail Lathifi said TNB had prepared four sets of generators with a capacity of between 500 and 1,000 kw as an alternative in case of power disruption.

He advised TNB subscribers to be prudent in using their electricity supply, like switching off their electrical appliances before leving their homes for the holiday.
"if they are going back to their villagers, ensure all the electrical appliances had been switched off and should they wanted to leave the lights on, to use those with timers, '' he added.
