Body of fallen pilot arrives at Subang air base

PETALING JAYA: The body of Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pilot Major Yazmi Mohd Yusof, 39, arrived at the RMAF Subang airbase here this morning, his remains will be transported back to his home at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur where he will be laid to rest at a cemetery nearby.
His remains arrived in a Hercules C130 military transport aircraft, having departed from the air force base in Kuantan at 9am.
More than a hundred air force personnel awaited the plane as it arrived to honour the fallen pilot.
His casket, draped in the Jalur Gemilang and RMAF flag, was brought out of the air base in a hearse at about 9.55pm, escorted by family members and RMAF personnel.
Yazmi, 39, and fellow pilot Major Mohd Hasri Zahari, 31, were found dead at Chukai, Terengganu yesterday afternoon following the disappearance of the RMAF Hawk 108 trainer jet they were in.
Following a post mortem at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) in Kuantan, the deceased duo's bodies were brought to a surau for prayers at around 5.45am this morning.
Yesterday, the RMAF lost contact with the aircraft half an hour after it departed from the RMAF Kuantan air base at 11am.
The duo's bodies, still attached to their parachutes, were found by the RMAF search and rescue (SAR) team in a swamp area in Chukai at 2.30pm yesterday.
