Don't let religious differences be an obstacle to greater racial unity: Kurup

SOOK: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup (pix) said religious differences should not be made an obstacle to strengthening racial unity in the country.
He said although Malaysians had different religions and beliefs, they still believed in mutual respect amid the diversity.
"We still practise the same values of being grateful and respecting each other although we are from different races and religions. This is not a gap that can separate us as a people."
He said this at the breaking-of-fast and handing-out of Raya aid tour programme for 30 recipients at Kampung Pengiradan, about 60 km from here, today.
Meanwhile, Kurup urged the community here to be wary of the propaganda and instigation by opposition parties which were always using lies to garner sympathy for their own political survival.
On another matter, Kurup who is also the MP for Pensiangan and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) president, said he would ensure that educational development in the area would continue to be boosted in the interest of future generations.
"Education is a powerful tool in improving the lives of people, and the priority in this era of globalisation is mastering knowledge," he said.
He therefore called on the local community to always seek knowledge, especially those related to their professions.
