Johor police detain 2,348 individuals in gambling raids

JOHOR BARU: Johor police detained 2,348 people in 388 raids on unlicensed online gambling premises across the state from June 1 until last Saturday.
Its Criminal Investigation Department chief, Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said of the number, 413 were the caretaker of the premises while 1,935 others were the customers.
"They are all aged between 17 and 64. In addition, police also seized 316 digital tablets, 2,835 computers, 4,032 laptops, as well as RM159,995 and SGD1,390 (RM4,282) in cash.
"As of now, there has been a drastic decline in online gambling activity due to the aggressive operations by police. However, there are still premises operating secretly late at night," he said in a statement here today.
Police also urged members of the public with information on the illegal activity to lodge a report to facilitate investigations and take the offenders to court. — Bernama
