Kedah records increase in dengue cases

ALOR STAR: Kedah has recorded a 101.6% increase (754) in the number of dengue fever cases from Jan 1 to June 10, compared to 380 recorded during the same period last year.
State health director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said three dengue-related deaths were recorded compared to one case last year.
He said the eight districts where there was an increase in the number of cases compared to last year were Kuala Muda (287 cases compared to 138), Kulim (194/61), Baling (77/72) and Kubang Pasu (49/17).
The other districts were Sik (40/5), Langkawi (21/10), Padang Terap (19/2) and Bandar Baru (13/9).
"Three districts where the number of cases dipped were Pendang with 10 cases compared to 15 last year, Yan (six/seven), and Kota Star where the number of cases (38) remained the same as last year," he said in a statement here today.
He added the five localities where dengue was still prevalent were Taman Selasih IV, Kulim (five cases); Kampung Charuk Kit, Sik (three); Taman Ria Jaya Zon A, Kuala Muda (three), Kampung Changai, Kubang Pasu (two) and Kampung Banggol 9, Padang Terap (two). — Bernama
