PETALING JAYA: Passengers and crew on board Chennai-bound Malaysia Airlines flight MH180 were given a scare on Saturday night after the aircraft experienced a loss of cabin pressure while approaching the Chennai International Airport.
This resulted in the deployment of oxygen masks, as the aircraft descended towards the airport for landing.
"The aircraft landed uneventfully at 10.30pm on Saturday and all passengers and crew safely disembarked," Malaysia Airlines (MAS) said in a statement to theSun today.
However, it did not elaborate on what caused the loss of cabin pressure nor the number of passengers and crew on board the flight.
Flight MH180 had departed from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 9.30pm and was operated by Boeing 737-800.
MAS said rectification work had also forced the return flight, MH181 which was initially scheduled for a 11.55pm departure, to be grounded, with passengers given accommodation and reallocated to another flight 12 hours later.
"Affected passengers were accommodated at hotels and subsequently reallocated on MH183 that departed as scheduled at 11.45am, June 11. MH183 was upgraded to an Airbus 330-300.
"Safety is of utmost importance for Malaysia Airlines. The airline apologises for the inconvenience experienced," it added.
