Monorail services operating as usual despite suspension of four-car train

PETALING JAYA: The monorail is still operating as usual despite the company's recent statement saying its four-car train set was suspended due to safety reasons.
Currently, its two-car train sets are operating every eight minutes with RapidKL buses providing a special shuttle service between monorail stations in the morning and evening peak hours on weekdays.
Checks by theSun today found passengers still queuing up for work after crossing from Titiwangsa LRT station, to switch to the monorail line that heads to among others Chow Kit, Medan Tuanku, Bukit Nanas, Raja Chulan and Bukit Bintang.
A passenger, who only wanted to be known as Julian, said he was slightly concerned because the monorail connects to main parts of the city for commuters.
"I'm a frequent user and it (monorail) helps me to access KL easily, even at peak hours. If I used either Uber, Grabcar or any cabs' services, the rates are expensive due to the traffic jam and high demand for its services," he said.
He hoped the situation will be resolved soon.
College student Michelle Lee, however, was pleased that buses were still available.
"I work part-time after classes. This is just a small setback," she said.
A spokesman said the situation is under control and reiterated Rapid Rail CEO Datuk Zohari Sulaiman for commuters to be patient.
Last Wednesday, Zohari announced the trains' suspension and advised commuters to use the LRT, cabs or public e-hailing services to enter the KL Golden Triangle.
Refunds will be given if a passenger decides not to board the train and exits the station if there is a delay of more than 15 minutes, he added.
