Police searching for car driver in fatal hit-and-run case

BESUT: Police are searching for the driver of a Perodua Viva to help with investigation in a hit-and-run case involving an elderly woman in her 70s, who died in the incident at Jalan Pasir Putih, Kelantan-Jertih near Kampung Padang Luas, yesterday.
Besut district police chief Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said in the 2.15pm incident, the victim, Rokiah @ Mek Yam Awang was walking with her husband towards a car parked across the street before being hit by a car.
"The driver of the car fled after the incident," he told reporters here today.
A post-mortem report from Besut District Hospital said Rokiah died on the spot due to severe head and body injuries.
Initial investigation showed the car was owned by Mohd Shahimie Bahari from Gerik, Perak but had been leased out by a car rental company to Yong Yoon Kian who worked in Putrajaya.
Mohd Zamri urged witnesses or anyone who can help to identify the driver to contact investigating officer Insp Mohd Hisham Abu Bakar at Jertih Traffic Branch Office at 09-6972700.
