KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Health Department received four complaints related to the sale of "recycled" stale food in Ramadan bazaars in Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus.
Its director Dr Mohammad Omar said as of yesterday, nine of the 137 samples of food taken from the bazaar were suspected of be contaminated and contained harmful bacteria, thus violating the Food Act 1983 and Food Hygiene Regulations 2009.
"I have already instructed health officers from the Food Safety and Quality Division to take immediate and decisive action on the matter. However, until now, there were no reports of food poisoning involving the sale of food at Ramadan bazaars throughout the state," he told reporters here today.
Mohammad said through monitoring and inspection at all 55 Ramadan bazaar sites, involving 4,905 stalls in the state, the Health Department had issued 59 notices involving a total of RM6,300 in compound for various offences.
Among the offences committed included not taking anti-typhoid injection, failing to wear apron and unsatisfactory hygienic conditions. — Bernama
